A reflection for today
Most of us have a voice inside that keeps a record. Sometimes it points to something real that needs to be dealt with. Often it goes further and tells you what God must think of you. John wrote to Christians who knew that voice: “Even if our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows all things” (1 John 3:20).
God knows more of your sin than you do, and He also knows what Jesus has done for you. Your heart doesn’t get the last word on where you stand with Him. “Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God—and He is interceding for us” (Romans 8:34).
The Holy Spirit does show believers their sin, and what He shows you will agree with what God says in Scripture. When your heart says more than God has said, answer it with His Word and come to Him anyway. You come for mercy, so you don’t have to be at your best to come (Hebrews 4:16).
A simple practice
The next time your heart accuses you, ask whether it’s saying what God says. If it points to real sin, confess it to God in a sentence and make it right where you can. If it says God is done with you, say the verse out loud as your own: “God is greater than my heart, and He knows all things.”
