Bearing Fruit devotional

The Sheath and the Sword

A devotional on resisting temptation

Ephesians 6:17

2:14

A reflection for today

Temptation often comes with a particular lie, which means broad intentions can feel thin in the moment. Ephesians 6:17 calls the word of God the sword of the Spirit. Specific Scripture gives us something solid to remember when fear, accusation, or desire gets personal.

Jesus met temptation with what God had said, not with a vague resolve to do better. That does not make memorization a performance. It is a way of keeping God’s words close enough to draw on when the fight is near.

Readiness is usually formed before the difficult moment arrives. A verse learned slowly can become a steady reminder of what is true.

A simple practice

Identify one present struggle. Choose one verse that speaks to it, write down its reference, read it aloud, and return to it once more today.

Build a gentle rhythm of returning

Bearing Fruit helps you make room for prayer, Scripture, and the practices that keep turning your heart toward Christ.
