Celebration & Lament
Bring joy and grief before God.
What it is
Celebration and lament are the habits of bringing both gladness and sorrow before God. Scripture gives words for feasting, weeping, thanksgiving, and grief (Romans 12:15; Ecclesiastes 3:4).
Why God gives it
God gives these habits so your heart does not become numb or fake. Celebration forms gratitude. Lament forms honest grief with hope instead of denial or despair. Both turn your face toward the God who weeps with us and will one day wipe every tear away.
Common distortions
Celebration gets distorted when it becomes forced positivity. Lament gets distorted when grief never looks up to God. Both habits fail when you edit your heart before you come to Him.
How to begin in Bearing Fruit
Start with Gratitude List when you need help naming grace, or use Journal to tell the truth about pain, sin, loss, or disappointment. Short and honest is enough.
Remember the gospel
At the cross, God does not ask you to clean up your joy or your sorrow before you come. Christ gives you reason to rejoice and a place to grieve with hope.
