Fasting
Turn hunger into prayer.
What it is
Fasting is voluntarily giving up food, or another good gift, for a spiritual purpose so hunger can turn you toward God (Matthew 6:16-18; Acts 13:2-3).
Why God gives it
God gives fasting to expose false comforts and deepen dependence. It forms self-denial, prayer, and clearer awareness of what your heart runs to for relief.
Common distortions
Fasting gets distorted when it becomes dieting, willpower theater, or spiritual bargaining. It is not a way to twist God's arm or prove your seriousness.
How to begin in Bearing Fruit
Start with Fasting Tracker and plan one small fast you can keep with honesty. When hunger comes, let it become a cue for prayer rather than irritation.
Remember the gospel
Jesus is not more willing to love you on a fasting day. Fasting does not earn nearness. It is one way of responding to the nearness He has already given you.
