When You've Got Nothing to Do Tonight

David's fall started on an ordinary evening at home. Scripture and a short prayer for deciding what tonight is for, and for the man who has already given in.

1:12

Read along

David's fall started on an ordinary evening at home.

It was spring, when kings went out to war. He sent his army out,

but David remained in Jerusalem.

2 Samuel 11:1

One evening David got up from his bed and strolled around on the roof of the palace.

2 Samuel 11:2

He saw a woman bathing, and instead of turning away, he asked who she was. She was married. He sent for her anyway. He slept with her, then had her husband killed to cover it up.

Decide now what the next hour is for, even if the answer is sleep.

If you've already given in, David's story didn't end there either. After Nathan confronted him, he prayed,

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10

Jesus, the Son of David, went to the cross so men like us could be made clean.

Lord, guard my eyes tonight. Keep me from wandering. Make my heart clean. In Jesus' name, amen.

Watch and pray.
