Advent 2026 group kit

Read Advent with your group

A group in the Bearing Fruit app is a few people reading the same Advent passage each day and praying for each other by name, as you wait for Jesus together. A small group or a few friends is plenty. Groups are free and hold up to 20 people, and for now they're for adults (18 and older).

The dates

November 22
Advent appears in the app. Start your group and send the invite. Day 1 is open to read early.
November 29
The first reading. Week 1 is Hope.
December 6, 13 and 20
Weeks 2, 3 and 4 begin: Peace, Joy and Love.
December 24
The last reading, on Christmas Eve. The readings stay in the app until January 6.
January 23
The group closes, 30 days after the last reading, and its record is deleted.

Start your group in the app

  1. From November 22, open Advent in the app and tap Read with others, then Start a group. Newer versions also have Read Advent with others under the Advent card.
  2. The first time, the app asks what year you were born, to check you're 18 or older. It doesn't keep the year.
  3. Enter the name your group will see. A first name is enough.
  4. Tap Create and invite. The app names the group for you, like “Advent with Ana,” and writes an invite with a link and an 8-character code. Send it by text, email, or wherever your group already talks.

How people join with the code

  • With the app: tap the link in your invite, then Join the group. Or open Advent, tap Join with a code, and type the 8 characters.
  • Without the app: the link opens a page with the code and the App Store and Google Play buttons. After installing, they open Advent, tap Join with a code, and type it in.
  • Anyone in the group can bring someone else in with Invite someone on the group card.

What everyone in the group sees

  • Each person's name, and a light beside it on the days they read.
  • “Sam prayed for you today” when someone prays for them in the app. It shows that day only.

Nobody sees anyone's notes, prayers, or the rest of their garden, and there's no chat. The app never marks anyone as behind. Anyone can turn off Show when I've read in Group settings and stay in the group.

A note to send before Advent

The app writes the invite itself. If you'd like to let people know ahead of time, here's a short note you can change as you like.

Announcement (about 70 words)

This Advent I'm reading a short Bible passage each day as we wait for Christmas and the coming of Jesus, and I'd love you to read with me. Bearing Fruit, a free app, has one short reading for each day from November 29 to Christmas Eve, about five minutes each. I'll send you an invite with a code. In the group we'll see who has read each day, and we can pray for each other by name.

When your group meets

Each week starts on a Sunday. Read that Sunday's passage together, talk about how the week went, and pray for each other. A short text partway through the week helps too.

For keeping the group safe, leaving, and deleting group data, see Leading a reading group (also in Spanish and Portuguese). To tell your whole church about the readings, use the Advent share kit. Questions? Email [email protected].
