Methodist beliefs: what the Methodist tradition teaches
Methodists teach that God's grace goes before everyone, that we are "justified by faith only", and that the Spirit leads believers on to perfect love of God and neighbor. They hold the historic creeds, two sacraments, and the Articles of Religion handed down from John Wesley, and they put faith to work in love and service.
Worship: A set but flexible order with hymns (often Charles Wesley's), Scripture, preaching and regular Holy Communion; many churches also hold contemporary services.

Practices associated with Methodist churches
The class meeting
Meet weekly with two or three friends who follow Jesus. Each answers one question honestly: how is it with your soul? Listen without fixing, pray for one another and keep it confidential. Wesley believed growth happens best together, and an hour a week is a good start.
Small weekly groups of about a dozen under a leader, begun in Bristol in 1742, where each person shared how it was with their soul.
Source: C. T. Winchester, John Wesley the Methodist, ch. IX (Wesley Center Online)“This was the method of the class meeting, which was first adopted at Bristol in 1742.”
The Covenant Renewal Service
At the start of a new year, read Wesley's Covenant Prayer slowly: "I am no longer my own, but thine." Notice the lines that are hard to say. Pray them anyway, or pray toward them, and give yourself to Jesus again for the year ahead.
John Wesley held the first Covenant Service on 11 August 1755 in Spitalfields, London, drawing on Puritan writings (Richard and Joseph Alleine). Methodists now keep it at the new year.

The lovefeast
Share a plain meal with others from your church: a sweet bun and coffee is the Moravian way. Sing a hymn, give thanks, tell one another what God has been doing. A lovefeast is not the Lord's Supper. It is a table of friendship in Christ.
A simple shared meal with singing and prayer, modeled on the early church's agape. The first Moravian lovefeast was held on 13 August 1727, after the renewal at Herrnhut.
